For decades, Friendship House has been well known in the neighborhood as a place to go when people needed help. FHA's Community Service staff helped over 250 people last year find emergency and permanent housing, assisted with utilities and rent payments, helped over 300 with budget and self-sufficiency counseling, and helped another 600 elderly with free bulk food. We distributed over 300 turkeys at Thanksgiving and 500 food and 300 toy baskets at Christmas, and made dozens of referrals to other agencies.

Located at four sites in the community, we operate a Clothing Center and Manpower Services. Friendship House Community Services staff have been important players in the city's task forces and working groups on government policy towards the poor. Most recently they have participated in the development of the city's welfare reform policy
