  Child Development Center

The Child Development Center at Friendship House is the oldest early education program in Washington, being established in 1910. The Child Development Center at Friendship House builds on the concept that learning should be natural and fun.

Our mission is to help children delight in the learning through the use of age –appropriate and stage appropriate materials and activities. Our education program is designed to support the development of social skills; encourage increased language development enhance thinking and problem solving skills; and develop pre-reading, pre-math, and pre-writing skills and concepts through the use of teacher directed and child initiated activities.

The center is current open 260 days a year, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am until 6:00pm. There are four learning groups for children housed in separate classrooms by age. Our pre-school program is for children two years through five. Our school age program begins with enrollment in school at age five through fifteen years of age. We offer a full-day preschool program and a part-day before and after school program during the school year and a full day program for school age children during the summer and holidays. The center is a member of the USDA childcare food program and serves breakfast, a fill hot lunch, and two snacks daily. Free dental, vision, lead, speech and hearing health screenings are offered annually.
